Any advice getting cheap fares plymouth- cheltenham?

Hi i am a student at plymouth travelling regularly (at least every 2 weeks) between plymouth and cheltenham/gloucester. Any advice on the cheapest fares? I have a student railcard. I am interested in getting a season ticket because it is such a pain organising tickets but I dont know if this is possible.
