That makes very interesting reading, Lee ... very generalised across the UK (I would love to see similar reports / graphs for (a) the FGW area and (b) the Bristol travel-to-work area out to Salisbury, Swindon, Taunton, Cheltenham and Newport.

I noted ... journey start time graph:

That's very similar to the graph on the same topic from the report five years ago;  I've recoloured the colums that show when TransWilts trains start their runs (Swindon to Westbury section) and it confirms that the times that the trains run are not peak ... they're run at times that the traffic would be expected to be less than a half of what a true peak service would encourage (or in the case of the commute to Westbury - less than one fifth!)

Also noted ...

I find it interesting (and I have no explanation) that women seem to drop off rail travel in their mid 30s, whereas men continue to increase their use of rail until they're 60.  Looking around rail user groups, etc, there's an irony that many of them seem to be dominated by the group that's of an age that it's no longer travelling a great deal by train - but then these folks have more time on their hands to help the lot of the hard-pressed commuter / breadwinner / parent.   I have to watch what I say here - I'll be crossing that great divide in not-too-many years.
