Electrification - London to South Wales

At a glance I couldn't find anything on the first page about this - surely a huge story about 'The Future'. I just wondered whether people think it will actually happen. Also, I wonder about the knock-on implications for the West of England mainline via Westbury. My suspicion would be that the temptation, ultimately, to route everything via Bristol will become operationally irresistible with implication for lots of linking lines...

How much cheaper are the electrics to run and maintain? Are they much quicker?
