The Brief Encounter café, which was set up by businessman David Turner in homage to David Lean's classic film, has been short-listed for the Best Station Retail Outlet category of the Community Rail awards.

National Express East Anglia was shortlisted nine times in total, including the Passengers Matter category for its initiative to introduce part-time staff at four rural stations, none of which had been staffed for over 40 years.

At North Walsham, Wymondham, Brundall and Attleborough stations National Express East Anglia employees sell tickets and provide information for customers during the busier morning periods and other times of peak demand.

The garden at Sheringham station, created and tended by the local Women's Institute, has been nominated by the Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership in the Best Station Garden category.
