Network Rail wants to double the number of car park spaces at Nottingham rail station under new plans (link below.)

A major £19m signalling upgrade is also planned for the station, but planning and approval is still being studied by rail regulators.

Chris Mitchell from Network Rail said the car park capacity would increase from 500 to 1,000 spaces.

He said Network Rail hoped to have approval for the parking expansion by the end of the year.

There are also plans for an expanded concourse at the station with more cafes, shops and other services.

Mr Mitchell also said five million people pass through the station every year - and demand is set to grow by 16% over next five years.
