An underpass near the main rail station in Leicester will be filled in and replaced with a pedestrian crossing, city officials say. (link below.) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/7492636.stmThe underpass leading from the station to Granby Street is difficult for cyclists and disabled people to use, City Councillor Patrick Kitterick said. The work on a new pedestrian crossing will start in January 2009. People - instead of having to come down into this gloomy subway - will be able to cross the road in a brand new crossing.
"As a main entrance to the city - almost everyone who arrives by train will come through here - it is a poor advertisement for Leicester." |
