Over 400 lorry journeys a week are to be cut from Scotland's busy roads as two new freight rail services are laid on to haul Tesco food (link below.)

Scottish Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson has pledged over £3m in a bid to cut congestion and carbon emissions.

Eddie Stobart will receive up to £982,000 to help transport Tesco goods between Grangemouth and Inverness.

John G Russell has been awarded up to £2.1m for a Coatbridge to Inverness rail goods service.

Mr Stevenson was speaking at the opening of Tesco's new distribution centre in Livingston.

Stobart Group has won a new contract to supply Tesco at the retail giant’s new distribution centre in Livingston, Scotland (link below.)

Stobart said it will provide a second dedicated rail freight service for Tesco running from Grangemouth to Inverness in a five-year deal worth £15m.

The train service will run six days a week and will be in lieu of the current method of delivering by lorry.

The Scottish government will award Stobart a freight facilities grant of £0.525m to defray the cost of purchasing the 70 intermodal containers that will be used in the Tesco freight service.
