Over 400 lorry journeys a week are to be cut from Scotland's busy roads as two new freight rail services are laid on to haul Tesco food (link below.) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7411020.stmScottish Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson has pledged over £3m in a bid to cut congestion and carbon emissions. Eddie Stobart will receive up to £982,000 to help transport Tesco goods between Grangemouth and Inverness. John G Russell has been awarded up to £2.1m for a Coatbridge to Inverness rail goods service. Mr Stevenson was speaking at the opening of Tesco's new distribution centre in Livingston.

Stobart Group has won a new contract to supply Tesco at the retail giant’s new distribution centre in Livingston, Scotland (link below.) http://www.sharecast.com/cgi-bin/sharecast/story.cgi?story_id=2286468Stobart said it will provide a second dedicated rail freight service for Tesco running from Grangemouth to Inverness in a five-year deal worth £15m. The train service will run six days a week and will be in lieu of the current method of delivering by lorry. The Scottish government will award Stobart a freight facilities grant of £0.525m to defray the cost of purchasing the 70 intermodal containers that will be used in the Tesco freight service.
