National Engineering Centre Plans Withdrawn
« on: April 17, 2008, 02:07:07 AM »

Plans to build a £40m national engineering centre in Sheffield have been abandoned by Network Rail (link below.)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/7351386.stm

The centre at Woodhouse, near Beighton, would have created 160 new jobs and regenerated an area of disused railway.

Network Rail said it would have become the national hub for maintaining engineering trains and track machinery, but the plan had become "uneconomic".

Nearby residents had spoken out in opposition of the plans, fearing an increase in noise and traffic levels.
