Grand Union, the company led by open access train operator Grand Central's founder Ian Yeowart, has revealed plans for the two sister companies to bid to run five new open access rail routes (link below.)
http://www.transportbriefing.co.uk/story.php?id=4882Following the launch of Grand Central’s inaugural services, Grand Union says further services between London King's Cross and Sunderland are proposed, with some trains also serving Middlesbrough and Thornaby.
In addition, a formal submission to the ORR to operate a new route between London King's Cross and Bradford (via Pontefract and Halifax) is expected before the end of April, together with a second set of new services between Bradford/Huddersfield and London Euston along the West Coast Main Line.
Three further new service proposals are at an early stage of evaluation and, as with previous Grand Central and Grand Union applications, seek to restore direct links to sizeable populations by utilising current rail infrastructure. These are:
* Cleethorpes to London King's Cross calling at: Grimsby Town, Habrough, Scunthorpe, Thorne South and Doncaster.
* Scarborough to London King's Cross calling at: Seamer, Malton, and York.
* Huddersfield to London King's Cross calling at: Mirfield, Wakefield Kirkgate, Rotherham, Meadowhall, Sheffield, Worksop and Retford.
