From the First Great Western website:
"16:47 Westbury to Swindon due 17:31 22 November 2006
This train has been cancelled.
Road transport will be provided to Chippenham."
"17:43 Swindon to Southampton Central due 19:44 22 November 2006
This train will be started from Westbury at 18:30. It will no longer call at: Swindon, Chippenham, Melksham and Trowbridge. This is due to a problem with line-side equipment.
road transport will be provided for customers from Chippenham."
So there is no reason for the 17:02 cancellation... hmm... I also note that "road transport will be provided for customers to/from Chippenham" but not any other stations on the line? Quite a lot of updates on FGW website at the moment, another 7 in total, must be stock shortages or something?...

Here we go again. Remember ... what was it ... "this is the easiest train for us to replace by a bus", so it's not necessarily a lineside equipment problem on the TransWilts line itself - it could be something like they've got stock and staff stuck at Weymouth ...
By the way, I heard that there's now a bus every evening at Trowbridge station waiting to act as a rail replacement service for this train. I'm not sure if that's true, but I do know that there's a sparkling new bus stop for "Rail replacement services" at the station there. I've seen it with my own eyes, and I was incredulous.

The 1743 Swindon - Southampton due 1944 calling at Melksham 1809 did not run at all in the end:
"17:43 Swindon to Southampton Central due 19:44 This train has been cancelled. This is due to earlier signalling problems."
