Santa Claus will travel from Melksham to Swindon on the 17:00 train and will return on the 17:50 from Swindon, arriving in Melksham at 18:16, on 9th December
This trip is organised by the Melksham Rail Development Group, and I understand that it's alreday fully booked. Note that the train service is a public one, so anyone else is welcome to travel. The train is being specially strengthened for the purpose.
9th December is the VERY LAST day of the current timetable, and the services listed will NO LONGER RUN after that date.
I'll be there. Would anyone else like to meet on this train? I'll probably catch it up from Trowbridge to Chippenham and back, although probably buy Trowbridge-Melksham and Melksham-Chippenham returns as it's more or less the same price. Plus I want some momentos of the trip! If any of the Save the Train team is going let me know and I'll make sure to meet, I'd really like to see you all for the first (but hopefully by no means the last) time.
Did you travel on the Santa Special today? If so was it on time and how many coaches did it comprise of? The reason I ask is that I happened to be travelling along the Western Way in Melksham today by car. (sorry ) Heading towards the Countrywide Farmers roundabout (is that what they are called now?) at about 1730 I noticed a single train unit heading up the line towards Thingley. Intrigued I spun into the station forecourt to find it very full of cars and no sign of this mystry train stopping. Perhaps it was an empty stock movement or something?
Yes, we were on the Santa train. It was a 143, and I think the coaches on that are shorter than the coaches on a 150. Could be that you saw that, perhaps .... or perhaps there WAS a stock movement
edit to add 143 - 15.5 metres long x 2 = 31 metres 153 - 23 metres long
