Topic: Good news - the 17:02 was 10 minutes late (Read 2024 times)

Dropped off a customer for the 17:02. I counted about 20 people on the train when it arrived. 2 people got off. And there were 10 people on the plaform ... I was the ONLY dropper off or greeter. So that makes - what - about 30 customers all told.
How is it that there's always about 30 customers for this train when FGW tell us that the number is 12?
What's good about the news (see my title). It's good that the train actually ran; it's cancelled at least once a week these days and, really, I don't mind a few minutes late.

The return journey was about 5 mins late out of Chippenham.
6 got off
There were over 37 people on the train when if left Chippenham.
So noones uses the train.
Are First just interested in the numbers who get on/off at Melksham, as the other passagners can us the train via Bath?

Yes, I think so. If you listened to Andrew Griffiths on BBC Radio Wiltshire the week before last, he was describing how the Westbury to Swindon service cannot be justified because "it goes to the wrong places - people from Melksham really want to go to Bath and Bristol". You'll note that in that comment, he totally overlooked journeys such as Trowbridge to Swindon and Westbury to Chippenham. By the way, I'll also take Andrew to task with his generalisation about people from Melksham wanting to go to Bath and Bristol. Yes, quite a lot do .... BUT an awful lot also want to go up to Chippenham and Swindon. Some of the mass of stuff that's come out under the FOI puts lie to the fact that people from Melksham ONLY want to go to Bath and Bristol. But I've got more to work on there ... Andrew Seedhouse, the GOSW office who spoke to us on Tuesday 7th at Trowbridge, described part of his role as "managing expectations". Listening to Andrew Griffiths, and seeing what comes from his actions, I can't help wondering if this is the job of a First "Regional Manager" too. In other words, he's managing the customer relationships but not, in any way, the train services or what's provided - he's there as a shield to to dumb down what people in towns of 20,000 like Melksham can expect from First. An interesting email in my inbox yesterday pointed out that as from 10th December, Melksham will have the same level of train service as Berney Arms in Norfolk. Never heard of it? Berney Arms is an isolated pub and station on The Broads - population 'a handful'.

Berney Arms is an isolated pub and station on The Broads - population 'a handful'. It is interesting to consider that the very Melksham - Bristol passengers that Andrew Griffiths was referring to will also be short - changed from December 2006 (see link below.) http://www.savethetrain.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=36.msg1951#msg1951By the way , here is the current Berney Arms timetable. http://www.onerailway.com/upload/Timetables/StandardPrint/15-norwich-to-great-yarmouth-and-lowestoft.pdfI would have argued that Berney Arms (which is frequently mentioned in the many conversations that I have regarding threatened lines & stations) will have a BETTER service than Melksham from December 2006. The timetable states that the morning train arrives in Great Yarmouth at 0811 and the evening train leaves Great Yarmouth at 1814. However , this was only the case up until 8 September 2006 , when the stop at Berney Arms in the evening train was removed.
