SCHOOL 1977 vs 2007 Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt. 1977 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman. 2007 - Billy's Dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist tells Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their Dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has affair with psychologist. There's something of a moral in that tale - that we tend to be so PC and H&S aware (politically correc and health and safety aware) these days that things that should be practical, no-brainers can go badly wrong. For example ... why do we have so much admin and so many layers of complexity and checks in the rail industry that it costs more to hire a train for a year (and that for one that should be lilfe expired) than the same train cost new some 20 years ago?
Net result - not economic to run a service. Road congestion. Bad carbon footprint. Accidents up (road is more dangerous). People's time wasted.
Not Funy - but serious.
