A new canal - a Liverpool example for Melksham
« on: February 16, 2008, 10:54:53 PM »

One of the great joys of campaigning for an appropriate TransWilts train service in Melksham is that everyone is on side - it will be universally welcomed when we get it.

The campaign for the Wilts and Berks canal to re-open, passing through the town along the course of the river Avon  - is a much more expensive project, and is much more hotly argued.

I was in Liverpool last weekend, and took some pictures of the signs and new works being undertaken there to bring the canal from Stanley Dock in the outskirts of the port area though to the tourist honeypot of Albert Dock.   It looks a mess under construction, but has fabulous promise.
