MP Anger At Virgin Rail Timetable Switch
« on: February 11, 2008, 03:45:39 PM »

Proposed timetable changes to Virgin trains on the West Coast Main Line, will be bad news for passengers and the environment in Cumbria, an MP claims (link below.)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cumbria/7238410.stm

Virgin wants to increase services to London from Glasgow, but reduce some services from stations in Cumbria.

Penrith and the Borders MP David Maclean said the move would force passengers to travel to Newcastle for more regular rail links to London.

The plan would see fewer trains at Penrith, Oxenholme and Carlisle.

The government is currently considering the new timetable.

If the plans are approved, Virgin could introduce the new timetables from December.

Virgin Trains admitted smaller stations may lose occasional services because it was focusing on "strong centres for travel."
