Virgin Wants Subsidy Boost
« on: October 11, 2006, 09:51:41 AM »

Virgin Trains is lobbying the government for extra subsidies to cope with growth in passenger numbers (link below.)

Virgin is in discussions with the Department for Transport over renegotiating its West Coast franchise , which operates out of London's Euston station to Birmingham , Manchester and Glasgow. However , it is understood that talks have reached a hitch over the capacity of Virgin's trademark Pendolino trains , which are part-subsidised by the government.

Apparently , the DfT is questioning whether investment in more carriages is necessary.
