This is a rare opportunity to influence at the most senior level the development of integrated transport solutions for the UK. The Department for Transport’s Rail and National Networks (RNN) Group works with all stakeholders to give the country the transport system it wants for a price it can afford.  Over the last two years it has established strategic priorities in the rail sector, culminating in publication of a White Paper in July.  This appointment will head up the Rail Technical and Professional Directorate and will:

Drive through the implementation of the Rail Technical Strategy produced with the 2007 White Paper “Delivering a Sustainable Railway”

Lead and facilitate development of a consistent vision within the industry on technical issues

Contribute to the leadership of the RNN Group as a member of the senior executive team

Develop the Directorate as a centre of excellence to provide specialist advice on railway engineering, intermodal economic analysis, safety, rolling stock, research and statistics.

To be successful you must have a technical background as a chartered engineer and experience of working at a senior level in the rail industry.  You will have an excellent reputation and track record of providing leadership so that the industry recognises and respects your authority on technical issues.  With this will come excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels. In return this will give you a pivotal role offering unique insights and ability to touch and shape all aspects of the sector.
