Railway police have said they are "ready and eager" to meet the challenge of the UK's new high speed rail line (link below.)

The last Eurostar train out of Waterloo will leave later , almost exactly 13 years after the first (link below.)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7092104.stm

The first Eurostar left Waterloo on 14 November 1994 and the last will depart at 1812 GMT on 13 November 2007.

The terminal will remain in Eurostar's hands for the next six months before it is handed over to the Department for Transport.

"We are working with DfT to bring Waterloo into full domestic use," said a spokesman for Network Rail.

He said there would be a phased introduction of regional services , starting from November 2008.

Eurostar is preparing to move to St Pancras International from Wednesday (14/11/2007.)

The first train out of St Pancras on Wednesday will be a VIP service to Paris Gard du Nord , leaving at 1101 GMT.

The first fare-paying service leaves for Brussels at 1104 GMT.

The cost of decommissioning the disused Eurostar platforms at Waterloo has been officially estimated at up to £100,000 (link below.)

And it could cost a further £500,000 a year to keep the "wider facilities" at Waterloo International safe and secure.
