I've had a quick peek at those ... looking up a couple of towns that I've worked in and become quite familiar with in the past - Atherstone and Stone.    Both have suffered rail ravages in the past - stations with no trains stopping - and I'm glad to see an hourly through service shown, to / from London, through the day to both of them.   I'm sure that's about the "right" level - call it an educated guess if you llike; with Atherstone especially, I've spoken with people in the town ....

Atherstone has a population of between 8000 and 9000.    Stone's is around 15,000.   The decision to specify an hourly service for each of them rather confirms that Melksham, population 24,000 is very hard done by indeed with just two trains each way a day.  Or perhaps when our draft December 2008 timetable appears, it will also show an hourly service to London  Wink.   Personally, I'll be much more modest and welcome a service that may not go quite so far, and may be isn't quite so frequent.

Stone - see http://www.heart-of-stone.co.uk/newsview.asp?newsid=123

Not so good for Nuneaton passengers , for whom the new timeables mean a 70% reduction in fast inter-city trains (link below.)

Virgin Trains' stops at Nuneaton station will be cut from around 35 a day to 10 and there will be no fast service to London outside peak times.

Virgin Trains' decision to cut its off-peak services from Nuneaton into London could be taken to a judicial review (link below.)

Nuneaton and Bedworth Council meets later to decide whether to take action over the cuts.
