« on: September 21, 2005, 02:06:42 PM »

This is the discussion forum on the Save The Train website

The site is dedicated to promoting and securing a good and appropriate long term rail service on the line that passes through Melksham, Wiltshire - both for the residents of Melksham, which has a population of 24000 people, and for the residents of Salisbury, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Chippenham and Swindon which are linked by the line.

Hello one and all,
My name is Daniel. I have some interesting population figures here. These are based on the 2001 Census so they are some number of years old, and the figures will have changed, but these give a rough idea how many people would fit into this catchment area.

432973 total population of Wiltshire. (2001) (I think this is nearer 600,000 by now)

Swindon – 180,051 (2001)

Chippenham – 28,065 (2001)

Melksham - 20,447 (2001)

Trowbridge - 28,163 (2001)

Westbury – 11,135 (2001)

Warminster – 17,337 (2001)

Salisbury – 114,613 (2001)

Total Catchment from Area of service – 399,811

That works out at nearly 90% of Wiltshires Population being in the catchment area for this service! If anyone wants any more population figures or other stats info send me an email and I'll do my best to dig up the relevant information.   wyvus@hotmail.com
