Member banned - posting against forum rules
« on: August 10, 2006, 03:50:26 AM »

I have just DELETED seven posts from this Forum by member Colin Farrell - posted against forum rules which state:

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is ... vulgar, ..... obscene ...  sexually oriented ,..., adult material, ...

I am also in receipt of a personal message from this member containing the same message.   This personal message came to my immediate attendion as it was copied to a user who's email has failed and "bounced" into my inbox.  I have deleted this personal message from all inboxes that appear to have received it.

As a result of these activities, I have banned the member concerned. Such an action by the moderator of the board is totally exceptional;  under normal circumstances, any user who's activities break the user agreement will initially be warned about his / her activity and asked to desist from breaking the rules in the future - however, the clearly intentional and repetitive nature of the transgression, and the fact that the subject matter was clearly unrelated to the topics discussed here, lead me to make an immediate and permanent exclusion.

I am not a lawyer, but as I understand it, the owner of a board can become legally responsible for the material posted to his board in some circumstances - in particular when he becomes aware of a post which may transgress the law.  Although I abhor removing or altering messages, in this case I had no realistic option.  I cannot think of any realistic reason for the posts / messages in question, but Colin Farrell is welcome to email me through graham@wellho.net to explain himself if he feels that my action in removing and banning was inappropriate.  I will listen, but I have the final decision.

This is getting a bit "silly" ... I know it's not just on this board, but there's (at the moment) a handful of folks signing up just to post links to their own adult and off topic sites .... never to be seen again.

The strategy on this board remains unchanged - posts that are against the membership agreement are not welcomed, unless you have the prior permission of one of the administrators.  There's a slight change in tactics - from now on, I'll simply delete any such posts -  without comment unless they're made by well established on-topic posters. Anyone who feels that their post has been unjustifiably deleted is welcome to email me (graham@wellho.net) where they will get a sympathic hearing, but after hearing them any decision I take will be final.
