Change at Chippenham for Warminster, Salisbury & Southampton was the cry!
« on: August 05, 2006, 06:44:42 PM »

I was getting the 17.42 to Chippenham at Bath Spa Station, when I heard “Passageners for Warminster, Salisbury & stations to Southampton, please board the 17.42 to London Paddington and change at Chippenham”

When I go off a Chippenham to get the 18.06 (Southampton Service) there were only two waiting for the west bound trains. After the London Paddington train left, I counter over 30 people waiting & then board the 18.06 for which most of these had come from Bath or Bristol and looking a little lost. As we know it is not often you change at Chippenham for Warminster, Salisbury etc.
More passageners using the service but won’t be counted.

Just think in December they will not be able to do this.
So the Swindon to Southampton Service is useful as a connecting train, when trains from Wales are delayed!!!!!!!!!!

That's a good piece of joined-up thinking in the day to day operations - and it's far from the first time something of the sort has happened. The numbers through the line may well be way over the 109,000 official figure, though. Occasional incidents like this, much more frequent diversions that come through (when we're closed at the end of August, there will be 6 trains a weekday between London and Bristol passing through) ....
