« on: August 15, 2007, 10:13:08 AM »

Three historic railway carriages have been put up for sale by their owners in an internet auction (link below.)

The restored Pullman carriages , Sapphire , Rosalind and Padua , are on offer at a reserve price of £15,000 each on the website eBay.

The carriages , dating back to the early 1900s , are currently used as a restaurant and reception at the Pullman Lodge Hotel on the Sunderland seafront.

A spokesman for the hotel said they did not fit into expansion plans.

The carriages have featured in several films , including Agatha staring Dustin Hoffman and Wagner in which Richard Burton played the lead.

All three were restored in 1989 , preserving their traditional features.

The auction closes on 23 August 2007.

The auction has ended without the reserve price being met (link below.)

There were 50 bids , but the auction closed on Thursday morning with the highest at £40,000. The owners are now looking to sell them through a specialist auctioneer.
