The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway at Wirksworth is one of the longest lines in private hands in the East Midlands.

London Underground is running the first of 40 engineers' locomotives to test a new control system which should allow trains to run faster and more often.

Managers at the railway said the test track generated income and would help develop passenger services.
