no450 Campaign Update August 2007
« on: July 30, 2007, 10:29:52 AM »

From the no450 Campaign :

To update you on the campaign to ban high density suburban rolling stock from the Portsmouth mainline:

SWT’s sole justification for 450s remains the additional 140 seats provided in a 12 car train.

The promised SWT Passenger Count and H&S studies are still outstanding.

The 1815 Waterloo departure has been restored to 444.

More 444s are promised from Dec 07 on off peak and weekend services. Until then 65% of the 135 daily services remain 450s.

Havant Borough Council have declared support for our campaign. “No 450” and SWT reps are invited to attend the first meeting in Sep 07.

Portsmouth Civic Society and The News continue in support, as do many MPs.

A Haslemere Rail User Group is being set up in the near future, primarily to support of the No 450 Campaign. Haslemere rail users who would like more information on this group should email support@no450.co.uk for further details.

The recent Government Railway Strategy review (Jul 07) confirms that overcrowding is not considered an issue on the Portsmouth mainline as no infrastructure improvements are proposed. This confirms the findings of the DfT document “Southern RPA Assessment for the Railway – Jan 07”.

What can you do?

· Log on to the SWT Online session at 2pm Tue 14 Aug on www.southwesttrains.co.uk and make your views about the 450s known.

· Continue to lobby SWT, your MP and Passenger Focus.

· If unhappy with official replies, copy all to support@no450.co.uk for advice on a response.

If you have points or comments please do not hesitate to email support@no450.co.uk.

Best wishes and thank you for your continued support.
