Support for Melksham
« on: June 20, 2006, 11:42:24 AM »

Smiley  I am the Webmaster for the Ivybridge Rail User's Group and I wish to add my full support for the campaign at Melksham. We at Ivybridge Rail User's Group had been affected by the savage cuts in services announced by FGW in February. However after a strong and vigorous campaign supported by our Town Council and MP (Gary Streeter) we have managed to get some of the planned cuts reversed. We have had an extra eight services added to the original six planned. This means that we will only lose  Sad  6 of the present services we have (we also have six SWT services at present). We may still have some battles to fight but we believe we have got a reasonable deal.

Malcolm, MANY thanks for your support.   I've been very careful not to compare Melksham to Ivybridge in the past since it COULD - earlier on - have been seen as dragging both down to the same level, whatever that might be.  Purpose has been to look to saving both.  However, now that you've officially got a reasonable deal, I congratulate you, thank you for the support and feel I can ask strongly Why Ivybridge and not Melksham?   Traffic figures are comparable, but we still stand to be slashed back from 5 trains each way daily to 2 ... and THOSE timed well away from the time they're really needed.   What did we get from the March consultation ... trains moved even FURTHER from the times when they'll be used.

Still campaiging here ... Melksham's  a service that according to First has more passengers leaving / boarding each train that Ivybridge has .... and yet ...
