As you can only buy daily or weekly season tickets on the train, how are monthy/Yearly season tickets count if bought a Chippenham, but the you travel daily from Melksham.

I don't know.  There are lies, damned lies and statistics at times.  Ticket sales only count tickets that speciffically say Melksham,; people who come to Melksham on a Chippenham ticket are not counted as Melksham, and Rover tickets are not counted - this latter is a serious problem in Cornwall where a packed train sometimes adds only a handful of passengers to the count.
