Its a Class 180 Adelante unit , as used on the London Paddington - Frome service. Here is a relevant link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_180Dont get too used to them though , as they are due to move to either Scotrail or Transpennine Express......

And is the London train going to change into a 125 (HST) or a 165/166?

But 125's are used on the Stroud Valley Line and Stonehouse has a short platform at which only two of the coaches can fit on the platform so why can they not use them at Frome if they are using them at Stonehouse? Unless 125's already have selective door opening mechanisms?

Where a station has been traditionally used for longer trains than the platform, longer trains remain able to stop there due to "Grandfather rights". Where there's been a significant period that longer trains have NOT called, Health and Safety rules take precedence ....

Anyone know what this is going about its business in Frome at about 6.55pm?
The Adelante is timetabled to arrive in Frome at 7.55 pm, so I'm not sure why it was in Frome at the time you saw it.

Some do and some don't - it's going in as part of the refurbishment program. However, First do not schedule specific services to be guaranteed to be refurbsished or prefurbished, so until ALL are converted NONE are to be scheduled to stop at short platforms where Grandfather rights do not exist.
