For the Bedwyn folks ...
« on: March 14, 2006, 10:13:04 AM »

A couple of links you have asked me for ...

1. Link to current government consultation, due in by 20th April, concerning rail closure proposals.   Won't be the minister's decision any more and it will be done on a strict cost basis. One of the elements AGAINST rail is that the treasury will loose tax income from road fuel!

2. Link to RED list of threatened stations and services in South and South West. Lists Bedwyn, Dilton Marsh, Melksham and Dean in Wiltshire.

Congratulations - I THINK - to the Bedwyn folks.  The First announcement of yesterday tells us that you're to retain your hourly service with just one gap in the middle of the day.   There's a pattern in First's press releases though - they go strong on good news and ignore the bad (hey, that's what you would expect), so I wait to see other re-actions and see if I've missed anything.

Well done to our local MP, Michael Ancram, for bringing this up with Alastair Darling. I understand that you live a few yards from the Bedwyn line.  Please provide us with similar support at this side of your constituency, where we're facing far deeper cuts than Bedwyn ever faced, to a service that's already far more sparse, and in a town that's 10 times the size of Bedwyn - Thank you
