Quote from my inbox, from a traveller over the last couple of days ...
I was chatting to the conductor and he advise me they have to count the passengers on the Melksham Services as they are under review!
Someting of a double edged sword .... they damned well SHOULD be under review because of the totally inappropriate timetable that's currently being operatated, which is not fit for the purpose of carrying passengers when they want to travel. BUT there's an uneasy feeling that has me wondering if the outcome of a review could simply be to discontinue less popular services. Now is an excellent time to remind: 1. First Great Western 2. The Department of Transport 3. Wiltshire County Council that the current service is not used because it DOES NOT PROVIDE the round trip opportunities required by the majority of travellers on this corridor, and that a relatively small investment would result in the traffic reboundeing evern abouve previous levels.

So much so that they travel instead on the later but extremely overcrowded services to Bath Spa, like I did this morning. A 2 carriage train from Portsmouth-Cardiff, bursting at the seams! If only they could see that if they ran a better service via Melksham they could ease some of the pressure off the other line, it's not rocket science.
