Hungarian Rail Tour
« on: February 15, 2007, 06:19:09 AM »

There will be a railtour "Around the Matra" on 24th February, 2007,
organized by the http://trains.hu portal. The three Bhv type coaches
will be pulled by an M40 loco (M40 224 expected). The fee is 5000 HUF
(around 20,00 EUR). More info (only in Hungarian but not so hard to
understand the important parts. A quick translation from the page:

"The line

In February, the scenery is still bald, the weather is cold, but yet
we have to go because later we can't. From 4th March, 2007 the
passenger service "temporarily close down" on the line between
Kisterenye and Kál-Kápolna, on the northern side of Matra. Of course,
we know it means the end of this line - freight trains may survive
for a while, but it looks like passenger trains never come back
again. The past of the Hungarian Railway, the next, northern section
of the former Mátra-Körösvidéki HÉV ("Suburban" railway) line between
Kötegyán and Kisterenye goes to heaven. Our special train will run a
week before the closure to see a living railway line through the
windows of our coaches. The watchman waves next to the closed
barriers, our train will be started by elegant dispatchers every
stations, passengers are waiting for the tiny Bzmot DMUs at Recsk
station. Remain such an image in our mind...

Te train

The class M40 (or 'Humpback') is one of the most popular series of
the Hungarian Railways. Until the steam heating discontinued, these
locos were hauling passenger trains, but their number is decreased
dramatically, and nowadays they are used for freight trains or as
pilot locos. The Humpbacks of the Hatvan loco shed usually ran on the
line to Somoskő (no. 81), they are followed by M41s ('Rattler'),
which are now replaced by series 63-41 DMUs. On 24th February, 2007
the past comes back for a while, the recently refurbished M40 224
will pull three immaculate blue Bhv coaches.

...

Note that the M40 type loco is unable to heat the Bhv type coaches,
so great-coat, cap, scarf, a pair of gloves and/or hot tea is
recommended!"
