Lest we forget - other services are under threat too. The users of Bedwyn station, which is the railhead for Marlborough, are threatened with a 50% cut in trains to London. That would reduce them from a train every hour to a train every two hours, and smash a well-oiled bus / rail connection operation. See their web site for details. I hate to draw comparisons .. but I do feel compelled to comment that it's a lot worse to loose southbound trains at 06:56, 09:12 and 14:49 ... leaving the first departure for Trowbridge at 18:09 (That's the threat to Melksham) than having alternate trains from a much more frequent service removed. However, I would suspect that the cuts at Bedwyn would result in a dramatic loss of traffic as the people of Marlborough would probably take to the more regular bus to Swindon and then the train from there, leaving Bedwyn somewhat moribund and subject to further cuts. Or perhaps that's someone's little scheme?
