Safety
« on: February 07, 2007, 07:51:14 PM »

I was told at Westbury Station tonight that train drivers starting their journey from Weymouth in the morning used to be put up over night in Weymouth before starting their journey but now FGW want them to drive down there in a taxi on the same morning. One driver this morning arrived with 7 minutes to spare before leaving, however because he needed 20 mins or so to do a safety check meant he lost his slot to go and had to wait another 13mins and on arriving at Westbury was consequently served with a disciplinary note for leaving late. Apparently staff are furious that leaving on time is now more important to FGW than passenger safety!

They certainally did used to be put up at night, I didn't know of any change

Would be intresting to see what comes off the disciplinary, I bet the union will be up in arms, as nearly all the Westbury drivers are a members of ASLEF or the RMT
