The European Commission said the total number of rail passengers travelling in the EU rose 2.2 pct to 357.5 bln in 2005 , from 350.0 bln the previous year (link below.) http://www.rmtbristol.org.uk/2007/01/eu_says_rail_passengers_up_22.html#moreIt added that the bloc's rail freight remained almost stable in 2005 at 392.0 bln tonnes. The commission said that France , Germany , Italy and the UK accounted for almost 70.0 pct of the bloc's total number of passengers. The EU executive added that Germany , Poland , France , Italy and the UK accounted for almost 60.0 pct of rail freight volume in the bloc. |
