Inadequate train provision DOES matter to people
« on: January 18, 2007, 06:12:41 AM »

Yesterday afternoon, we started gathering signatures on the government's Downing Street site to petition the Prime Minister for an appropriate train service.  I've just had a look to see how we did in the first few hours:

Those numbers on the RIGHT are signatures so far.  We seem to have an order of magnitude more than the other causes started at the same time.

1. This IS important to people. More signature for a localish issue than national ones!!!

2. If YOU sign too, we can make a mark.  At the least, we get an email response when the petition closes. At best, the request may get consideration and have an element of influence.   And it costs nothing to sign

3. Once you have signed, PASS ON THE URL / a link to this page or the petition to fellow rail users, freinds and colleagues.

The URL of the petition: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/wessextrains/
My brief intro page: http://www.savethetrain.org.uk/restore.html
Our discussion forum: http://www.savethetrain.org.uk/forum/index.php

Thanks!

The signature count has now passed 500! It's at 503 at this moment.

I sent off an email to Points West earlier about the petition with an address to it, so hopefully they may mention it later.

EDIT:
Quote
Because there are so many signatories, only the most recent 500 are shown on this page.

I have received this e-mail from Transport 2000 :

Dear Friend

There is a petition on the website below which you may be interested in signing. Please pass this email on to your friends and colleagues who are affected by the South West Rail issues.

Thank you.

Please click on the link below to confirm your signature

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/wessextrains/DVCOiRAdR3iJBuK9B2A1qKe

The petition was created by Graham Ellis and reads:

'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to provide a reliable train service with adequate capacity at times that travellers wish to make journeys from Swindon to Westbury, Bristol to Severn Beach, Portsmouth and Weymouth to Cardiff, Taunton to Cheltenham, Swindon to Cheltenham. This includes all intermediate stations and journeys in both directions.'
