Would you like 6 trains a day each way, or just 2, next year? Draft timetables which will be implemented with sufficient public and political support have been prepared bt First Great Western, validated by Network Rail, and run through the County Council for whom this is a strategic route in their current local transport plan - see box above.

The TransWilts train service from Swindon and Chippenham via Melksham to Trowbridge, Warminster and Sailsbury is under threat of withdrawal from Decemeber 2006, to be replaced by just 2 trains a day (at 06:20 and 18:12) from Swindon just as far as Westbury.

Please help - please express your view in the consultation process that's under way at the moment. Your comments will be emailed directly to the First Group's consultation team. First have promised to look at and respond to all suggestions, but can only do so if you give them your contact details.

How many services should there be?
"A service level of 2 trains per day IS adequate for this line, but it should be timed to suit commuter flows to Chippenham, Swindon, Melksham and Trowbridge - the train should arrive in Swindon at about 08:20 and 17:20, and return at about 08:40 and 17:40.
"This line should be provided with two early morning return trips, one in the middle of the day, one in the early evening and one in the late evening as at present. Traffic has grown 8 TIMES over with this pattern of service in the last 5 years, and continues to grow."
"This line has grown rapidly in use over the past five years and the service should be increased to every 2 hours between Swindon and Westbury, which could be achieved with a single train."

If service MUST be limited, when should they run?
"I believe that IF just two trains are to be run they should be provided at a time that they would be most useful to railway users. They should leave Westbury at about 07:45 and 16:45 and return from Swindon at about 08:40 and 17:40."
"I believe that IF just two trains are to be run they should be provided at 06:20 and 18:12 from Swindon as proposed in the draft timetable"
